Dee Devoe
The celebration of life service for Dee Devoe, 80, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont.
He died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha due to injuries sustained in a car accident Sept. 11 in Fremont.
Darrell Dee Devoe was born May 4, 1923, in Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941 and was a 1949 graduate of the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He served in the South Pacific with the Army Signal Corps from 1942-46. He married Bernadine "Bernie" Nelson on Aug. 17, 1947, in Centerville, Iowa. They moved to Fremont in 1949 when he started working for George A. Hormel and Company. He served as manager of many different departments until his retirement in 1984.
He was a lifelong member of The Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained as an elder. He was a member of the Noon Kiwanis Club, the Omaha Tangier Shrine Center and past president of the Fremont Shrine Club, where he participated in the Roadster II group. This year he received his 50-year pin from the Fremont Masonic Lodge. He was a Boy Scout leader for 12 years, teaching wood badge and nurturing many Eagle Scouts. He was a former vice president of the Fremont Jaycees.
Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Dee Ann (Mrs. Terry) Wood of Castaic, Calif., and Carolyn Johnson (and special friend, Greg Hultgren); a son, David (and wife, Laura) Devoe of Murietta, Calif.; a brother, Reid (and wife, Gloria) Devoe of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, a great-grandson and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Monday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. A public Masonic service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to The Presbyterian Church, Tangier Shrine Transportation Fund and Boy Scouts of America.
