Paul Wertz was born January 9, 1924 in Hollister Mo., the sixth child of Thomas Jackson Wertz and Grace Pearl Davis. He joined the Navy immediately after high school, and served in Australia and the Philippines during WWII. Paul attended college in Ames, Iowa. He was recalled in 1948 and joined the Air Force, in which he served until he retired in 1966. His duty stations ranged from the WWII Pacific Theater to New Mexico, Korea, Missouri, Morocco, and North Dakota. In 1954, he married Jean and they traveled together throughout his career. After retirement, he made his permanent home in New Mexico, where he and his wife Jean continued to raise their three daughters.
